Jack Thomas Smith – Writer, Producer, Director |
|
Born in 1969 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jack Smith lived there until he was eight when his family relocated to a quiet island community in Michigan, which would later serve as the inspiration for his next feature film In The Dark. He began to write at a very young age after reading the Stephen King novels Salem’s Lot and The Shining. By age eleven, he had written a 300 page novel and a number of short stories. Smith’s family moved to Sparta, New Jersey, when he was a teenager. There in that middle-class town that he discovered the films of George A. Romero, Stanley Kubrick, Brian DePalma, and John Carpenter. Inspired to make movies, he wrote and directed a handful of short films that were shot on Super 8mm and starred his brother and friends in all the roles. As a young adult, Smith began his career by producing the feature film The Regenerated Man, which was written and directed by Ted Bohus. The Regenerated Man, a science fiction/horror film, is filled with plenty of scares and outstanding special effects. Smith co-produced his second film, Santa Claws, with John Russo, who wrote and produced Night of the Living Dead. Santa Claws is an erotic horror film about a crazed young man who stalks and murders his victims while dressed like Santa Claus. E.I. Independent is handling the distribution of this film. In 1998, Smith was instrumental in the re-release of Night of the Living Dead for its 30th anniversary. He worked with Mr. Russo in the securing of funds for the shooting of new footage and assisted in the hiring of crew members. Smith’s production company is currently developing the action/horror film Wrath and the comedy Ties That Bind. The goal of Fox Trail Productions is to produce and distribute films in all genres, ranging from thrillers and dramas to comedies and action films. Smith wrote, produced, and directed Disorder (www.DisorderTheMovie.com). In September of 2006, it screened at the Raindance Film Festival in London and received outstanding reviews. In May of 2007, Disorder screened at the Cannes Film Festival, and in January of 2008 at the Berlin Film Festival. Disorder has been released nationwide on DVD by Universal Music and Video Distribution and New Light Entertainment. Disorder first opened as a limited theatrical release in NYC, Dallas, and Kansas City to a number of sold-out shows. Disorder was released in the United States on Pay-Per-View and Video-on-Demand by Warner Brothers in the summer of 2007. The foreign sales agent representing Disorder has already secured a number of distribution deals in foreign territories. Smith has also directed a music video for cult punk rock singer Pam Shelby and has worked for years on various reality TV shows. Smith’s company, Fox Trail Productions will handle the production of his next feature film, In The Dark. |
